Gregg - You make some really great points about the plastic vs paper vs producing cloth bags. Still, since my re-usable bags have already been made and purchased, my best choice is to use them as much as possible.

It's also good to know that local farmers sell most of their produce to the big grocery store chains. I find that even with appropriate labeling, the local grown produce gets lost in the sea of produce. At the farmer's markets, I can easily find the seasonal and local grown products. But, I do feel better now that I know Schnucks caries local produce since that's where I do most of my shopping.

Looking forward to getting to know you at the St. Louis Blogger's Guild.

It's funny, but even if you WANT to do the "right" thing, it's hard to tell what that is! Those plastic grocery bags were the original environmentalist grocery backs...because of "saving the trees." They are also made largely of recycled materials and can be recycled. The funny thing is that the paper bags are too. Most likely, using your own cloth bags IS the best thing, depending on the material. There's impact there, too, though.

Also, as a note, the Dierbergs and Schnucks stores are also local stores and buy produce locally when it is possible. My brother once operated a farm near St. Louis (20 min. away) and they were his best customer.

You have some great resolutions, too! Doing your first has always been a positive for me, and I love going to all the non-chain restaurants. Did it today, as a matter of fact.

BTW, it's nice to see you are joining the Blogger's Guild. I'll see you there, no doubt.
