Discovering Blogs and Social Media

by Karen Goodman on September 25, 2009

in Everything Else

When I first started blogging in 2007, I didn’t even really understand what a blog was. I didn’t know about RSS, SEO, feed readers or website analytics.

I spent a lot of time reading and learning. Here are a few of the sites that helped me get started and influenced my approach to business.

Last December, I finally took the plunge and started using Twitter. Then Facebook and Flickr. Then I met a ton of people at local tweetups.

In less than 2 years I went from knowing absolutely nothing about websites, blogs and social media, to becoming the social media expert at my prior and current real estate brokerages.

I still have a lot to learn. My website will continue evolving as I learn more about the latest online methods. In fact, it is about to undergo a major transformation through the help of Rowboat Media. I’ll continue to share what I’ve learned and I’m looking forward to teaching some classes for other real estate agents at my office. My goal is to have the Keller Williams Kirkwood office become THE St. Louis real estate office for agents that are on the cutting edge of using technology in their business.

3 Must-See Videos:

Video is such a powerful medium. Maybe you learn something new. Maybe you get a message that simply rings true. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

Common Craft – RSS in Plain English:

Common Craft has a series of videos which explain technology concepts to all of us non-geeks. The RSS video is the first one I saw, but I highly recommend the social media and blogging ones too.

Gary Vaynerchuk:

I love all of Gary’s videos. I especially like the older ones you’ll find on his site if you scroll through the archives. This one will give you a sense of who he is and what he can teach you.

Social Media Revolution:

Anyone in business needs to understand that the way the world communicates and how information is shared has changed.
