Housing tends to be more expensive in the Parkway School District portions of Maryland Heights. Properties are primarily single family homes, condominiums, townhouses and rental properties. Most of the single family homes are ranch, split levels or 2 story homes built in the 1960-1980s.

The city of Maryland Heights also includes a Westport Plaza, an outdoor shopping and entertainment district, Creve Coeur Park, Aquaport, an outdoor concert venue and a casino.

Maryland Heights residents attend either Parkway School District or Pattonville School District.

Parkway School District is considered one of the best public school districts in the St. Louis area, covering much of West County. The Pattonville School District includes parts of North County in the area around the airport and also includes the northern edges of the West County area near the Westport Plaza area.
