I’m always looking for ways to improve this website. One of the pages that I keep tweaking is our Client Review page.

You wouldn’t believe the dread that most agents feel whenever a new website starts accepting reviews of real estate agents. They worry that a disgruntled client will blow something out of proportion, giving them a bad review, and there will be nothing they can do about it.

But agents who provide excellent customer service and know their market have nothing to fear.

In fact, agents should welcome unbiased client reviews. I don’t know about you, but I don’t trust those client testimonials that the agent can decide to publish or not. Not to mention those agents who should be booted out of the industry might actually make up testimonials themselves.

For months I’ve been trying to figure out how to deal with the fragmentation of reviews across the internet. If my clients want to write a review, which site should I encourage them to use?

A couple of days ago, I found the answer. I read an article by a top agent out of Phoenix, Jay Thompson. He put together a website just to help his clients find sites where they could post reviews, and potential clients a place where they could read all of the reviews.

Inspired by Jay’s efforts, I took his concept and completely revamped our Client Reviews page. I left the spontaneous video reviews that we take of our clients at the top of the page, but added links to the major sites where people review professionals and businesses (Google, Yelp, Zillow and LinkedIn). I also added a 5 star rating system to the page so people who want to can just leave the reviews here.

Temporarily I’ve left my old fashioned ‘Client Testimonials’. I’ve sent requests to each of the people who wrote them to see if they would write a review so I can take them down. Respond or not, in a couple of weeks the testimonials will be gone.
